Cape May Warbler by Bev

Aug. 31: Here we are at the end of another month.  We have had some great birds.  We banded 566 birds with 1690 net hours giving us 34 birds per 100 net hours.  We banded 25 days and had 533 hours of volunteer time.  I will compare with last year at a later time.  
Jim, Rick, Dora, Cornelia, Alan:  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher 2, Veery, Gray Catbird, Magnolia Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler 2, Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat 2, Wilson's Warbler 2, Baltimore Oriole = 15, recaptured 7, saw 31 species.

Aug. 30: Jim, Roswitha, Kim, Cornelia, Jason, Alan. Temperature was 18 rising to very hot by closing.  No wind.  Clear and sunny.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher, Gray Catbird 4, Philadelphia Vireo 2, Red-eyed Vireo 4, Magnolia Warbler, American Redstart 6, Mourning Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Norther Cardinal, Swamp Sparrow, Baltimore Oriole, American Goldfinch 6 = 31, retrapped 7, saw 28 species.

Aug. 28: Jim, Roswitha, Brett, Cornelia, Alan, Jason.  13 degrees with no wind then a little from S.W. Full sun.  Banded:  Veery 3, Swainson's Thrush, Gray Catbird, Cedar Waxwing, Warbling Vireo 6, Red-eyed Vireo, Nashville Warbler, Magnolia Warbler 4, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, American Redstart 2, Mourning Warbler 2, Common Yellowthroat 2, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Song Sparrow, Baltimore Oriole, American Goldfinch 3 = 32, retrapped 6, saw 37 species.
Brett left today with an excellent endorsement towards his sub permit.

Aug. 27: Jim, Roswitha, Brett, Cornelia, Alan.  A cool morning of 8 degrees with no wind or clouds.  Banded: Mourning Dove, Traill's Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher, Great Creasted Flycatcher, Veery 3, Gray Catbird 3, Red-eyed Vireo 3, Tennessee Warbler, Magnolia Warbler 5, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Bay-breasted Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler, American Redstart, Northern Waterthrush 2, Common Yellowthroat, Wilson's Warbler, Canada Warbler, Northern Cardinal, American Goldfinch, Bobolink 5 = 35, retrapped 3, saw 36 species.
The Bobolinks were lured into the nets with a tape.

Aug. 26: Jim, Kim, Cornelia, Alan, Jason, Dwayne, Brett,  Another morning at 14 with no clouds and a little wind from the North.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher, Blue Jay, Gray Catbird 3, Warbling Vireo, Tennessee Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, American Redstart 3, Connecticut Warbler, Wilson's Warbler 2, Canada Warbler, Song Sparrow = 18, retrapped 11, saw 33 species.

Aug. 25: Jim, Kim, Cornelia, Alan, Dwayne.  Again only 14 degrees. Some ground fog, sunny morning.  We did only half as well as yesterday.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher 2, Least Flycatcher, House Wren, Gray Catbird 6, Red-eyed Vireo, Tennessee Warbler, Magnolia Warbler 2, Black-and-White Warbler, American Redstart, Ovenbird 2, Common Yellowthroat 2, Northern Cardinal, Swamp Sparrow = 22, retrapped 10, saw 28 species.

Aug. 24: Jim, Rick, Dora, Cornelia, Alan.  Cloudy morning with temperture of 14 and with from N.E. Sun by closing.  Interesting morning.  Banded:  Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Traill's Flycatcher 2, Least Flycatcher 3, Black-capped Chickadee, House Wren, Carolina Wren, Gray Catbird 2, Warbling Vireo, Philadelphia Vireo 2, Red-eyed Vireo 5, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Magnolia Warbler 4, Cape-May Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Bay-breasted Warbler, American Redstart. Northern Waterthrush, Mourning Warbler2, Common Yellowthroat, Wilson's Warbler, Northern Cardinal, Song Sparrow 5, Swamp Sparrow, American Goldfinch 3 all young = 44, retrapped 13, saw 38 species.         Things are coming through as they normally would in early to mid September.

Aug. 23: Jim, Roswitha, Kim, Cornelia and we welcome Alan Rutherford from Scotland.  A wet start to the morning with a shower to finish things off.  Temperature 14 wind from N.
Banded: Least Flycatcher, Veery, Gray Catbird 5, Red-eyed Vireo, Magnolia Warbler 4, American Redstart 2, Northern Waterthrush, Mourning Warbler, Canada Warbler, Song Sparrow 2, Swamp Sparrow = 20, retrapped 4, saw 26 species.

Aug. 21: Roswitha, Kim, Cornelia, Jason. Temperature 17 with full cloud. No wind to start and SE 5-10 by closing.  Banded:Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Traill's Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher, Great Creasted Flycatcher, Veery, Swainson's Thrush, Gray Catbird 3, Cedar Waxwing 2, Tennessee Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Magnolia Warbler 2 Cape May Warbler 5, American Redstart 2, Common Yellowthroat, Northern Cardinal, Swamp Sparrow = 25, retrapped 7, saw 29 species.

Aug. 20: Jim, Roswitha, Cornelia, Jason, Owen, Fraser. Temperature 14, very little humidity wind reasonably calm from N. Banded: Traill's Flycatcher 2, Least Flycatcher, American Robin 2, Gray Catbird, Blue-winged Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, American Redstart 4, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat, Canada Warbler, Swamp Sparrow = 20, retrapped 3, saw 28 species. 

Aug. 19: Roswitha, Kim, Cornelia. Temperature 13 becoming more humid and a high of 20. No wind.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher 2, Gray Catbird 2, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Song Sparrow 2, Common Grackle = 9, retrapped 5, saw 22 species.

Aug. 18: Jim, Kim, Cornelia.  Temperature of 17, cloudy all morning with a sprinkling of rain early on.  Wind from NW.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher 2, Least Flycatcher, Black-capped Chickadee 3, American Robin, Gray Catbird 2, Cedar Waxwing 3, Warbling Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo 2, Tennessee Warbler 2, Yellow Warbler 5, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Magnolia Warbler 2, Blackburnian Warbler, Black-and-White Warbler, American Redstart 4, Northern Waterthrush really fat, Wilson's Warbler, Canada Warbler 4, Rose-breasted Grosbeak 3, Song Sparrow = 40, retrapped 6, saw 33 species. 

Aug. 17: Jim, Rick, Kim, Cornelia, Jason.  Nice day with morning temperatures of 15 a little wind and few clouds.  Banded:  Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Traill's Flycatcher, Blue Jay, House Wren 2, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, American Robin 3, Gray Catbird 8, Cedar Waxwing 2, Yellow Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, American Redstart 3, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat 2, Canada Warbler 2, Song Sparrow = 31, retrapped 7, saw 29 species.

Aug. 16: Jim, Roswitha, Sarah, Cornelia.  Great morning, 18 degrees a west wind 8 and no noticeable humidity.  Banded:  Downey Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Traill's Flycatcher 4, Least Flycatcher, American Robin 3, Gray Catbird 2, Cedar Waxwing 3, Warbling Vireo, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Black-and-White Warbler, American Redstart, Northern Waterthrush 2, Rose-breasted Grosbeak 2, Song Sparrow, Baltimore Oriole 3 = 29, retrapped 6, saw 32 species.

Aug. 14: Jim, Kim, Cornelia, Jason.  Nice early morning, hot and humid by closing.  Banded: Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Traill's Flycatcher 5, Black-capped Chickadee, House Wren 3, Swainson's Thrush-heavy molt, American Robin-nestling, Cedar Waxwing, Yellow Warbler 2, Magnolia Warbler, Ovenbird, Baltimore Oriole 3 = 20, retrapped 5, saw 30 species. 

Aug. 13: Jim, Kim, Cornelia.  More pleasant day.  Banded:  Downey Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Traill's Flycatcher, Black-capped Chickadee 3,  Gray Catbird 2, Red-eyed Vireo, Yellow Warbler 5, Black-and-White Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Canada Warbler 2, Northern Cardinal, Song Sparrow, Common Grackle 4 = 24, retrapped 5, saw 29.

Aug. 12:  Jim, Kim, Cornelia. We wish Bev a speedy recovery.  Temperature 21 degrees, high humidity, no wind slight shower in early morning..  Banded: American Woodcock, Downy Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Traill's Flycatcher 5, Least Flycatcher 2, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Black-and-White Warbler, Mourning Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Canada Warbler, Song Sparrow, Baltimore Oriole = 17, retrapped 9, saw 28 species.

Aug. 11: Jim, Kim, Cornelia.  Temperature 18 with humidity rising through morning. No wind. Banded: Traill's Flycatcher 2, Blue Jay 3, Black-capped Chickadee, House Wren, Gray Catbird 4,  Cedar Waxwing 3, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat,, Canada Warbler, Common Grackle 5, Baltimore Oriole = 23, retrapped 4, saw 33 species.

August 10: Jim, Rick, Cornelia.  97% humidity and 22 degrees on starting.  Bushes/grass soaked from last nights rain.  No wind.  Banded:  Yellow-bellied Flycatcher 2, Traill's Flycatcher 2, Black-capped Chickadee 2, House Wren, Carolina Wren, Blue-gray Gnatcacher, Gray Catbird 2, Cedar Waxwing 2, Warbling Vireo 2, Yellow Warbler 3, Cape May Warbler, Common Yellowthroat 3, = 22, retrapped 3, saw 22 species.

August 9: Jim, Bev,Kim, Cornelia:  Humidity has started up again. Temperature of 21 and 97% humidity.  A welcome breeze from Nw.  Banded:  American Robin, Gray Catbird 3, Warbling Vireo, Yellow Warbler, American Redstart, Ovenbird, Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow = 10, retrapped 8, saw 21 species.

August 7: We welcomed Cornelia Harries from Germany. Jim, Roswitha. A beautiful day with cool temperatures starting at 12 degrees.  Banded: Traill's Flycatcher 2, Least Flycatcher, Gray Catbird 2, Blackburnian Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Canada Warbler 3, American Goldfinch = 12, retrapped 2, saw 31 species.

August 6: Jim, Roswitha, Bev, Rob.  A great morning with only 14 degrees and no humidity. Clouds clearing as morning went on.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher 3, Black-capped Chickadee, Swainson's Thrush, American Robin, Gray Catbird, Cedar Waxwing 4, Warbling Vireo 4, Yellow Warbler 2, Ovenbird, Swamp Sparrow = 19, retrapped 10, saw 35 species.

August 4:  Jim, Roswitha, Bev.  Again a humid heavy morning. Wind from SW rising through the morning.  We closed early and saw 12 Great Egrets on Port Maitland east side. Two were tagged.  Banded:  Traill's Flycather, American Robin, Cedar Waxwing 3, Warbling Vireo, Song Sparrow, Baltimore Oriole = 8.

August 3: Jim, Rick, Bev.  Humid! 96% 20 degrees with 10/10 clouds and no wind.
Banded: Downy Woodpecker, Traill's Flycatcher, Black-capped Chickadee 3, Gray Catbird, Warbling Vireo, Yellow Warbler 4, Common Yellowthroat 2, Song Sparrow 4 = 17, retrapped 13, saw 20 species.

Augurst 2: Jim, Roswitha, Bev.  We had 13 visitors today.  Nice sunny morning tending towards humid. Temperature of 18 and SW winds.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher, Downey Woodpecker, Blue Jay,  Black-capped Chickadee 2, House Wren 2, American Robin, Gray Catbird 4, Cedar Waxwing 4, Yellow Warbler 2, Song Sparrow 3, Swamp Sparrow,  Common Grackle  = 23, Retrapped 9, saw 21 species.
