This was a good month with 18 days of banding out of a possible 21.  I did take a week off to get ready for my mother-in-laws moving yard sale.  We banded 580 birds and recaptured 117.  We had 1153 net hours and this gave us 50 birds per 100 net hours.  The best net was net 3 with 164 birds and the worst net was number 9 with 18 birds.  We banded 43 species.  The higest number of birds banded was on August 6 with 57 birds.  The highest species count was on August 22 with 19 species.

Wednesday, August 31. Jim, Kim, Alex, Darlings. 13 degrees with cloud and Sw wind. Banded: Blue Jay 2, American Robin 2, Gray Catbird 3, Warbling Vireo 6, Red-eyed Vireo 3, Tennessee Warbler 2, American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat 3, Northern Cardinal, Chipping Sparrow, House Finch, American Goldfinch 6 = 31 of 12 species. Recaptured 8 of 7 species and saw 28. The Butler family came in and helped out.
 
Tuesday, August 30.  Jim, Kim, Bev, Alex.  Nice day, starting to get a little humid.  Wind from the W. Banded:  Downy Woodpecker, Traill's Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher, Veery 2, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Swainson's Thrush, American Robin, Gray Catbird 4, Red-eyed Vireo 2, Magnolia Warbler 2, American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat, Canada Warbler, Song Sparrow 2, American Goldfinch 11 (Lots of Hatch Year). = 32 of 15 species.  Retrapped 7, saw 27 species.

Monday, August 29.  Jim, Bev, Jason and we welcomed Pierre-Alexander Dumous from Sherbrook Quebec.  A cool 8 degrees with N.W. winds of 5.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher 2, Veery, Swainson's Thrush, American Robin, Gray Catbird 8, Cedar Waxwing 6, Warbling Vireo 3, Philadelphia Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo 7, Magnolia Warbler 3, American Redstart 2, Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat 5, Canada Warbler, Song Sparrow, American Goldfinch 3 = 48 of 18 species.  We recaptured 5 birds of 3 species.  We saw 35 species.

Saturday, August 27.  Jim, Bev, Roswitha, Sarah M., Alex, Kaitlin, Gerda.  Nice day wind N.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher 2, Black-capped Chickadee 2, Veery 2, Gray Catbird, Cedar Waxwing, Philadelphia Vireo, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Magnolia Warbler 6, Black-and-white Warbler, American Redstart 2, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat, Wilson's Warbler, Northern Cardinal, American Goldfinch 2, = 26 of 16 species. Recaptured one bird and saw 32 species.

Friday, August 26, Jim, Kim, Rob, Sarah.  Cloudy day with 15 degrees and NW wind. Banded:  Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Traill's Flycatcher 4, Least Flycatcher, House Wren 2, Swainson's Thrush, American Robin, Gray Catbird 6, Cedar Waxwing 2, Warbling Vireo, Magnolia Warbler 7, American Redstart 2, Mourning Warbler, Wilson's Warbler 2, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, American Goldfinch, = 33 of 15 species.  Recaptured 6 and saw 30.

Thursday, August 25, Jim, Bev.  We had S.W. wind with humidity and after the huge thundersorms of last night the nets were soaking wet and harder to open.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher 3, Least Flycatcher 2, Blue Jay, House Wren 2, American Robin, Gray Catbird 5, Cedar Waxwing 2, Northern Waterthrush, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Swamp Sparrow, American Goldfinch 2 = 21 birds of 11 species.  We recaptured 8 of 8 species and saw 27 species.  The Blue-winged Warbler was a recaptured bird.  Yesterday was 40k winds and threatening rain so we did not go out. 

Tuesday, August 23, Jim, Kim, Jason.  Temperature of 13 with a few clouds and wind from W.  What a difference a day makes.  Banded: Downy Woodpecker, Traill's Flycatcher 2, American Robin, Gray Catbird 2, Red-eyed Vireo, Yellow Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Canada Warbler, Northern Cardinal, Song Sparrow, = 12, of 10 species.  Recaptured 6 birds of 3 species and saw 28 species.

Monday, August 22.  Jim, Kim, with Roswitha and Hildie visiting.  Apparently the birds have not heard that Fall migration is not supposed to really get going until September 1.  Weather had 10 degrees in morning with N.W. wind of 5.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher 4, Black-capped Chickadee 2, Veery 2, American Robin, Gray Catbird 8, Cedar Waxwing 2, Warbling Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo, Tennessee Warbler 3, Chestnut-sided Warbler, American Redstart, Ovenbird 2, Northern Waterthrush 4, Common Yellowthroat 2, Canada Warbler, Northern Cardinal, Song Sparrow 3, Baltimore Oriole, American Goldfinch 3 = 43 of 19 species.  Recaptured 9 birds of 3 species.  Saw a total of 34 species.

We are going to be closed next week and will re-open on Monday August 22.

August 13, Saturday:  Jim, Bev. Temperature 13 with humidity cloud cover and wind from SW.at 7.  Banded:  Black-capped Chickadee, Gray Catbird 2, Cedar Waxwing, Warbling Vireo 2, Yellow Warbler 3, Common Yellowthroat, Swamp Sparrow, Common Grackle, American Goldfinch 4 = 16 of 9 species.  Recaptured 12 birds of 6 species.  Saw only 18 species.

August 12, Friday:  Roswitha, Rob, Kim.  Temperature 15, with wind SW 7, with humidity again.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher 4, Least Flycatcher 2, Black-capped Chickadee, House Wren, Gray Catbird, 2, Warbling Vireo, Northern Waterthrush 3, Northern Cardinal, Song Sparrow, American Goldfinch = 17 of 10 species.  Recaptured 13 of 6 species.  Saw  25 species.

August 11, Thursday:  Jim, Roswitha, Jason.  Only 11 degrees and NO humidity.  Wind from W rising to 15.  Banded: Black-capped Chickadee, Gray Catbird 4, Cedar Waxwing, Yellow Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Song Sparrow 2, Common Grackle 4, American Goldfinch 7 = 21 of 8 species.  Recaptured 9 birds of 3 species.  Saw 24 species.  Things will probably not pick up until the next wave of migration towards the 20th of the month.

August 10, Wednesday:  Jim, Roswitha, Bev.  Yesterday was a rain day.  Temperature 14 with W wind about 11.  First day for zero net rounds.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher 3, Least Flycatcher, Black-capped Chickadee, Eastern Tufted Titmouse, House Wren 2, Carolina Wren, Gray Catbird 5, Warbling Vireo, Yellow Warbler 3, Northern Cardinal, Song Sparrow, Red-winged Blackbird, Common Grackle, American Goldfinch = 24 of 12 species.  Recaptured 3 of 2 species. Saw 30 species.

August 8, Monday:  Jim, Roswitha, Jason.  Temperature 17 with wind from NE 11.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher 4, Least Flycatcher 2, Black-capped Chickadee, House Wren 3, American Robin, Gray Catbird 5, Cedar Waxwing 8, Yellow Warbler 8, Black-and-White Warbler, American Redstart, Northern Waterthrush, Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, Common Grackle = 39 of 12 species. Recaptured 4 of 2 species.  Saw 30 species.

August 6, Saturday: Jim, Roswitha, Sarah Mulder.  Temperature 18 with extreme humidity. Banded:  Yellow-shafted Flicker, Traill's Flycatcher 4, American Robin 2, Gray Catbird 6, Cedar Waxwing 13, Warbling Vireo, Yellow Warbler 26, Common Yellowthroat, American Goldfinch = 57 of 9 species. Recaptured 6 of 5 species.   Saw 25 species.  I wondered when we would start catching Waxwings since the honey suckle berries have been ripe for awhile, we caught both juvenile and adult.

August 5, Friday: Roswitha, Jason, Rob.  Temperature 14 with NE wind of 5.  Very humid.  Banded: Blue-gray Gnatcather, Swainson's Thrush, Gray Catbird 4, Yellow Warbler 17, American Redstart, Northern Cardinal, Song Sparrow 2, Swamp Sparrow 2, American Goldfinch = 31 of 10 species.  Recaptured 5 of 3 species.  Saw 21 species. 

August 4, Thursday:  Jim, Roswitha, Jason.  Temperature 12 with NE wind which picked up a little towards 9.  Yesterday it rained.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher 2, Least Flycatcher, American Robin, Gray Catbird 8, Cedar Waxwing, Yellow Warbler 5, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat, Song Sparrow 5, Swamp Sparrow 2, Common Grackle, American Goldfinch = 29 of 10 species.  Recaptured 5 of 4 species.  Saw 27 species.

August 2, Tuesday: Jim, Bev, Rick. Temperature 13, not as humid. Wind NW very light. Full sun. Banded: Traill's Flycatcher 4, House Wren, Eastern Tufted Titmouse, American Robin, Gray Catbird 9, Yellow Warbler 28, Nortern Waterthrush, Swamp Sparrow, Orchard Oriole a Hatch Year bird, American Goldfinch = 48 of 10 species. Recaptured 3 of 2 species and overall saw 29 species.

August 1, Monday:  Jim, Rosiwtha, Jason.  Not so hot temperature wise (19) but terribly humid.  Wind from W but at only 2.  Full sun by 8.  Banded:  Downy Woodpecker, Least Flycatcher, Black-capped Chickadee 2, House Wren, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, American Robin, Gray Catbird 9, Tennessee Warbler, Yellow Warbler 30, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat, Song Sparrow 3, American Goldfinch = 53 of 13 species. Retrapped 7 of 4 species and in total saw 30 species.
