Monday, October 31.  Jim, Kim, Roswitha, Jason.  4 degrees with S wind, nice morning.  Banded:  Sharp-shinned Hawk a Hatch year male, sorry Alex,  Downy Woodpecker, Black-capped Chickadee 2, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3, Hermit Thrush 3, American Robin 6, Cedar Waxwing 15, American Tree Sparrow, Fox Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow 5,  Dark-eyed Junco 10, American Goldfinch 4, House Sparrow 2 = 56 of 14 species.  Recaptured 17 of 6 species and saw 31 including a Mute Swan that flew over the banding station.

Saturday, October 29.  Jim, Roswitha, Kim, Jason.  Only 0 this morning with a S.E wind and a snow/fleet/rain shower on closing.  Banded:  Red-breasted Nuthatch, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet 3, Ruby Crowned Kinglet, Hermit Thrush 3, Cedar Waxwing, a late Black-throated Blue male, Northern Cardinal, Fox Sparrow 2, Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow 2, Dark-eyed Junco 10, American Goldfinch = 29 of 14 species.  Recaptured 14 of 7 species and saw 28 species.

Friday, October 28.  Jim, Roswitha, Kim, Rob, Jason.  We had -3 this morning with beautiful white nets when opened.  Banded:  Winter Wren, Hermit Thrush, American Robin 6, Cedar Waxwing 23, American Tree Sparrow 4, Fox Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow 3, White-throated Sparrow 2, Dark-eyed Junco 3, American Goldfinch = 45 of 10 species.  Recaptured 4 of 3 species and saw 26 species including Horned Grebe, Common Loon, and Bonapart Gulls on the lake.  We are now over 3,000 birds but with only a week to go we will probably be short of last years total.

Thursday, October 27.  Jim, Alex, Kim.  Wednesday was another rain event.  Today we said good-bye to Pierre Alexandre Dumas.  It was a pleasure working with him and I expect we will see him again.  Weather today was overcast and only 0 on opening.  Rain again by closing.  Banded:  Downy Woodpecker, Golden-crowned Kinglet 7, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 7, Hermit Thrush, American Robin 6, Orange-crowned Warbler 2, Northern Cardinal, Fox Sparrow 2, Song Sparrow 2, White-throated Sparrow 13, Dark-eyed Junco 13 = 55 of 11 species.  Recaptured 21 of 7 species and saw 28 species including an American Tree Sparrow.

Tuesday, October 25. Jim, Alex, Kim.  Monday was a bit of a wash out depending where you were.  Showers continue for most of next week.  3 degrees but a pretty nice day.  Banded:  Downy Woodpecker, Blue Jay, Brown Creeper, Winter Wren 2, Golden-crowned Kinglet 2, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 4, Hermit Thrush, American Robin 2, Red-eyed Vireo- really late, Fox Sparrow 2, Song Sparrow 10, Swamp Sparrow 5, White-throated Sparrow 11, Dark-eyed Junco 20, American Goldfinch 2 = 65 of 15 species. Recaptured 9 of 7 species and saw 32 species.

Sunday, October 23.  Roswitha, Jim, Alex.  The hunch that today would be a continuation of yesterday proved correct.  Weather was sunny with S.W. winds and a start temperature of 3.  Banded: Mourning Dove, Downy Woodpecker 2, Blue Jay, Black-capped Chickadee, Brown Creeper 2, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet 3, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 16, Hermit Thrush 3, Gray Catbird, Cedar Waxwing 15, Myrtle Warbler 3, Indigo Bunting, Fox Sparrow, Song Sparrow 2, Swamp Sparrow 6, White-throated Sparrow 16, Eastern White-crowned Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco 18, Red-winged Blackbird 3, American Goldfinch 1 = 102 of 21 species.  Recaptured 15 of 7 species and saw 35 species.  I won't be making a habit of Sunday banding.

Saturday, October 22.  Jim, Roswitha, Kim, Alex, Bev.  Nice day with an attempt at sun.  Wind N.W. at 5.  Banded:  Mourning Dove, Eastern Phoebe, Brown Creeper, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet 12, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 42, Hermit Thrush 2, American Robin, Gray Catbird 2, Cedar Waxwing 3, Nashville Warbler, Myrtle Warbler 16, Western Palm Warbler (at last!), Northern Cardinal, Fox Sparrow, Song Sparrow 6, Lincoln's Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow 3, White-throated Sparrow 11, White-crowned Sparrow 3, Dark-eyed Junco 12, American Goldfinch = 123 of 22 species.  Recaptured 28 of 11 species.  Saw 40 species.  We don't usually band on Sunday but tomorrow will be an exception considering the large movement today. 

Friday, October 21.  Jim, Alex, Kim, Rob.  Such is the weather these days that at night the forecast says one thing and in the morning it is something else.  We went out for 8 and didn't have rain until the end of the morning.  Wind was NW.  Banded:  Ruby-crowned Kinglet 12, Myrtle Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler late, Field Sparrow, Song Sparrow 2, Swamp Sparrow 2, White-throated Sparrow 15, White-crowned Sparrow 8, Dark-eyed Junco 8 = 50 of 9 species.  Recaptured 15 of 7 species and saw 23 species.  16 Eastern Bluebirds flying over made me want a tape to bring them down.  Maybe tomorrow.

Thursday, October 20.  Jim, Roswitha, Kim, Alex.  Late start because of early rain.  Rained again before we were finished. S.E. winds up to 25.  Banded:  Downy Woodpecker, Black-capped Chickadee, Brown Creeper, Golden-crowned Kinglet 2, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 16, Hermit Thrush, Red-eyed Vireo-late, Northern Cardinal, Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow 3, White-throated Sparrow 4, Dark-eyed Junco = 33 of 12 species.  Recaptured 8 of 5 species and saw only 20 species.  Tomorrow looks like we will be closed because of rain. 

Wednesday, October 19.  Jim, Kim, Alex.  We had a short shower today but other than a bit of wind a good day.  Banded:  Brown Creeper, House Wren, Winter Wren 2, Golden-crowned Kinglet 9, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 19, Hermit Thrush 6, Nashville Warbler, Black-throated Blue female, Myrtle Warbler 6, Blackpoll Warbler, Eastern Towhee female, Song Sparrow 4, Lincoln's Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow 4, White-throated Sparrow 14, White-crowned Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco 7, American Goldfinch 2 = 81 of 18 species.  Recaptured 14 of 8 species and saw 41 species.  Tomorrow we will wait until 9 and hopefully the rain will have stopped. 

Tuesday, October 18.  Jim, Kim, Alex, Rick.  A no wind day with increasing clouds.  Temperature 6 to start.  Banded:  Black-capped Chickadee 2, House Wren-rather late, Golden-crowned Kinglet 2, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 10, Hermit Thrush 6, American Robin most are flying high, Blue-headed Vireo, Orange-crowned Warbler, Myrtle Warbler (Yellow-rumped Warbler) 18, Northern Cardinal 3, Field Sparrow, Song Sparrow 6, Swamp Sparrow 3, White-throated Sparrow 8, Dark-eyed Junco 6, American Goldfinch 11 = 80 of 16 species. Recaptured 18 of 6 species and saw 30 species.  We will be trying to fit banding into a wet couple of days.

Monday, October 17. Jim, Kim, Roswitha, Alex, Jason.  After rain and high winds on Friday and Saturday we had another very windy day but no rain.  Wind from the S.W. 25 gusting higher.  Robin Taxier left us on Saturday to return to Ohio, we wish her well and appreciated the help that she provided.  Banded: Eastern Phoebe, Blue Jay, Golden-crowned Kinglet 3, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 9, Hermit Thrush 4, Myrtle Warbler 4, Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow 17, Dark-eyed Junco 4, American Goldfinch 3 = 48 birds of 11 species.  We recaptured 8 of 6 species and saw 22 species.

Thursday, October 13. Jim, Roswitha, Kim, Alex, Jason, Robin, Cindy.  Congratulations to Pierre Alexandre Dumas and Kim Christoff in obtaining their second recommendation towards their banding permits.  It is up to the Canadian Banding Office now to give the permits.  A big thanks to Cindy Cartwright for coming to Rock Point to evaluate them.  
 Today was cloudy but warm.  Banded: Eastern Phoebe 2, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet 2, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3, Hermit Thrush 2, Blue-headed Vireo, Song Sparrow 3, Swamp Sparrow 2, White-throated Sparrow 9 = 25 birds of 9 species.  Recaptured 15 of 6 species and saw 22 species.  Quite a drop in birds from yesterday.

Wednesday, October 12. Jim, Kim, Jason, Alex, Robin, Cindy.  Cloudy morning with a front moving in.  Temperature of 12 and S wind.  Banded:  Mourning Dove, Black-capped Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Brown Creeper 4, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet 12, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 28, Hermit Thrush 8, Gray Catbird, Nashville Warbler 2, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Myrtle Warbler 2, Black-throated Green Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler, Northern Cardinal 2, Song Sparrow 4, Lincoln's Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow 2, White-throated Sparrow 22, Eastern White-crowned Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco 8 = 104 of 20 species.  Retrapped 13 of 4 species and saw 32 species.  We bird banders love fronts that also bring in the birds.

Tuesday, October 11.  Jim, Alex, Bev, Robin.  Foggy morning.  Clouds moving in from S.W.  Banded: First net run a Saw-whet Owl. Mourning Dove that Alex has been wanting to catch for quite a while.  Brown Creeper, Golden-crowned Kinglet 4, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 16, Hermit Thrush 8, NO Catbird, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Myrtle Warbler, Indigo Bunting, Song Sparrow 2, Lincoln's Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow 7, White-throated Sparrow 11, American Goldfinch = 56 of 14 species.  Recaptured 14 of 7 species.  Saw 26 species.

Monday, October 10. Jim, Jason, Alex, Robin.  A beautiful day.  High pressure system is not doing too much to encourage migration.  Banded:  Ruby-crowned Kinglet 7, Hermit Thrush 3, Gray Catbird 3, Blue-headed Vireo, Orange-crowned Warbler, Myrtle Warbler 2, Common Yellowthroat, Song Sparrow, Lincoln's Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow 3, White-throated Sparrow 8, Dark-eyed Junco, = 32 of 12 species.  Retrapped 14 of 5 species.  Saw 29 species.

Saturday, October 8. Jim, Alex, Jason, Robin. Another beautiful day with low of 8 and high of 21.  Banded: Black-capped Chickadee 2, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 8, Hermit Thrush, Gray Catbird, Blue-headed Vireo, Orange-crowned Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow 3, White-throated Sparrow 3, Dark-eyed Junco, American Goldfinch 2 = 26 birds of 13 species.  Retrapped 6 birds of 3 species and say only 24 species.

Friday, October 7.  Jim, Roswitha, Alex, Jason, Robin.  Temperature again 5 rising to 20 with full sun.  Sw breeze.  Banded:  Northern Saw-whet Owl 2- Alex and Robin.  Eastern Phoebe 2, Black-capped Chickadee 3, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Brown Creeper, Golden-crowned Kinglet 5, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 5, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Hermit Thrush 3, Gray Catbird, Nashville Warbler, Myrtle Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, a very late Canada Warbler, Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow 6, White-throated Sparrow 15, Dark-eyed Junco 3, American Goldfinch = 54 of 19 species.  Recaptured 10 of 8 species and saw 34 species.

Thursday, October 6.  Jim, Roswitha, Alex, Kim, Robin.  Temperature 5 with SW breeze and clear sky.  A beautiful day.  Banded:  Blue Jay, Black-capped Chickadee, Winter Wren 3, Golden-crowned Kinglet 6, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 11, Hermit Thrush 4, Gray Catbird, Nashville Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Myrtle Warbler 2, Blackpoll Warbler, Song Sparrow, Lincoln's Sparrow 2, Swamp Sparrow 14, White-throated Sparrow 7, Eastern White-crowned Sparrow 2, Dark-eyed Junco, American Goldfinch = 60 of 18 species.  Recaptured 8 of 5 species and saw 32 species.

Wednesday, October 5.  Jim, Roswitha, Alex, Jason, Robin.  Temperature of 5 with NW breeze and clear sky.  Banded:  Northern Saw-Whet Owl 2 by Alex and Robin, Eastern Phoebe 2, Blue Jay 2, Golden-crowned Kinglet 4, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 10, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Hermit Thrush 4, Wood Thrush, Gray Catbird 6, Nashville Warbler 2, Blackpoll Warbler 2, Common Yellowthroat 3, Northern Cardinal 3, Song Sparrow, Swamp Saprrow 8, White-throated Sparrow 15, White-crowned Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, American Goldfinch = 69 of 19 species.  Recaptured 18 of 8 species.  Saw 43 species.

Tuesday October 4.  Jim, Alex, Robin, Kim, Rick, Bev.  Drizzling rain in the morning but clear with sunny periods by closing.  Wind N.W. and just a breeze.  Banded:  Eastern Phoebe, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 5, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Gray Catbird 6,  Blue-headed Vireo 2, Red-eyed Vireo, Nashville Warbler 2, Myrtle Warbler 2,  Black-throated Blue Warbler 2,  Blackpoll Warbler 2, Common Yellowthroat, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow 11, YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO = 38 birds of 14 species.  Recaptured 7 birds of 3 species and saw 32 species. 

  Saturday.  October 1 and Monday October 3.  Not a good start to a new month with a Low Pressure System that just seems to be circling around dumping rain.  Tomorrow looks like it will be good and we can get this month going with some banding.
