Another month gone.  Banded 1005 birds in 1,905 net hours and 23 days.  Lost 3 days to rain and 4 days to Sunday.  We had 168 retrapped birds. We had 13 volunteers accumulating 774 field hours. Birds per 100 net hours works out to 53.
Last year we banded 1068 birds with 58 birds per 100 net hours.
This leaves this September in 3rd place out of 11 years.
It has been an excellent month.

Sept. 30: Jim, Kim, Orla, Alan, Lucy. Temperature 13 degrees with no wind.  Full cloud all morning.  Banded:  Blue Jay, Red-breasted Nuthatch 2, Golden-crowned Kinglet 6, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 5, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Hermit Thrush, Gray Catbird 6, Tennessee Warbler, Nashville Warbler 4 Magnolia Warbler 3, Black-throated Blue Warbler 3 Black-throated Green Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler 5, Black-and-White Warbler, Common Yellowthroat 2,Song Sparrow, Lincoln's Sparrow 2, Swamp Sparrow 2, White-throated Sparrow 11,= 59, retrapped 4, Saw 33 species. 

Sept. 29: Jim, Lucy, Alan, Jason, Orla.  Temperature 12 partly cloudy, wind from NE. Banded:  Blue Jay 2, Red-breasted Nuthatch, House Wren, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet 9, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 7, Gray-cheeked Thrush 4, Swainson's Thrush, Blue-headed Vireo 3, Philadelphia Vireo, Nashville Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler 2, Blackpoll Warbler 2, Swamp Sparrow 3, White-throated Sparrow 8, American Goldfinch 4 = 56, retrapped 4, saw 29 species.  We are going to have Saw-whet Owl training tonight at 6:30 and see if we can catch a few.

Sept. 27: Jim, Kim, Jason, Alan, Lucy, Orla.  Temperature 14, full cloud, wind from NW. rain by closing.  Banded:  Brown Creeper 2, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet 2, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 13, Gray-cheeked Thrush 3, Swainson's Thrush, Gray Catbird 15, Blue-headed Vireo, Philadelphia Vireo 2, Red-eyed Vireo 2, Nashville Warbler 8, Orange-crowned Warbler, Magnolia Warbler 2, Black-throated Blue Warbler 2, Myrtle Warbler 4, Black-throated Green Warbler 2, Blackpoll Warbler, Mourning Warbler-very late, Common Yellowthroat, Song Sparrow 3, Lincoln's Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow 19, Eastern White-crowned Sparrow,  = 89 of 24 species-highest species count this season.  retrapped 12, saw 35 species.

Sept. 25: Roswitha, Bev, Jason.  Visitors from Peninsula Field Naturalist led by Rick and Dora Young, Darling guys, 4 others from park.  I and the overseas volunteers  were at the Royal Botanical Gardens doing a banding demonstration for their Biodiversity Festival.
Temperature 15 rising to 24 with humidity in the early morning.  Wind W at 17 dropping.  Heavy cloud to start dropping to 4/10.  Banded:  Blue Jay 2, Black-capped Chickadee, House Wren, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet 5, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 5, Swainson's Thrush 3, Gray Catbird 2, Magnolia Warbler 2, Cape-May Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler 3, Blackpoll Warbler 2, American Redstart, Ovenbird 2, Lincoln's Sparrow 2, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow 7 = 41, retrapped 7, saw 28.
13 birds were banded at the RBG- Chickadee 3, Waxwing 6, Mrytle, Blackpoll, Nashville.

Sept. 24: Jim, Roswitha, Jason, Lucy, Orla, Alan.  Temperature 20 with gusting winds from W. of 15 to 60.  Banded:  Blue Jay 3, Red-breasted Nuthatch 2, Golden-crowned Kinglet 3, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 4, Gray-cheeked Thrush 2, Swainson's Thrush 2, Gray Catbird 3, Philadelphia Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo, Magnolia Warbler 6, Black-throated Blue Warbler 2, American Redstart, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow 6 = 37, retrapped 4, saw 24 species.

Sept. 23:  Yesterday was a rain day and we were not open.  Jim, Roswitha, Lucy, Orla.   N.W. wind but very gentle, temperature of 12 degrees rising through the morning to humid hot.  Banded:  Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Winter Wren 2, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3, Veery, Gray-cheeked Thrush 2, Swainson's Thrush, Gray Catbird 17, Brown Thrasher, Philadelphia Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo 2, Nashville Warbler, Magnolia Warbler 5, Black-throated Blue Warbler 4, Black-throated Green Warbler, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat, Lincoln's Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow 7, American Goldfinch 2, = 56, retrapped 3, saw 38 species. 

Sept. 21: Jim, Rick, Dora, Alan, Lucy, Orla.  Temperature 20 with SE winds, full cloud then clearing and then again full cloud.  Banded:  Yellow-bellied Flycatcher 2, Brown Creeper, Golden-crowned Kinglet 2, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 7, Swainson's Thrush 4, Gray Catbird 2, Blue-headed Vireo, Philadelphia Vireo 2, Red-eyed Vireo 2, Tennessee Warbler, Nashville Warbler 3, Magnolia Warbler 3, Cape-May Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler 5, American Redstart 2, Ovenbird, White-throated Sparrow 3, American Goldfinch = 43, retrapped 7, saw 26 species.

Sept. 20:  Jim, Roswitha, Cornelia, Jason, Alan, Lucy, Orla.  Cornelia and I left at 10:00 so I could get Cornelia to Toronto.  She will be missed since she is an exceptional volunteer. Temperature of 5 degrees rising to 15.  Wind calm from north. Banded: Least Flycatcher, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Gray-cheeked Thrush 2, Swainson's Thrush 3, Wood Thrush, Gray Catbird 9, Brown Thrasher, Red-eyed Vireo, Magnolia Warbler 2, Black-throated Blue Warbler 2, Blackpoll Warbler, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat 2, Wilson's Warbler, Song Sparrow, Lincoln's Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow 4, White-throated Sparrow 8, = 43, retrapped 11, saw 36

Sept. 18:  We closed early so we could attend the Festival at Ruthven.  Banding: Jim, Roswitha, Cornelia, Lucy, Alan, Orla.  Nice morning.  Banded: Red-breasted Nuthatch, House Wren, Veery, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Gray Catbird 3, Red-eyed Vireo 4, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Wilson's Warbler 3, Northern Cardinal some late fledglings 2, Song Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, American Goldfinch = 23, retrapped 6, saw 23.

Sept. 17: Jim, Roswitha, Cornelia, Lucy, Alan, Orla.  Temperature 20 with slight wind from N.  Full cloud changing to sun by closing.  Banded:  Black-capped Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Gray-cheeked Thrush 2, American Robin, Gray Catbird 7, Philadelphia Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo 3, Nashville Warbler 3, Magnolia Warbler 3, Black-throated Green Warbler, Bay-breasted Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler, Common Yellowthroat 5, Northern Cardinal, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, American Goldfinch 7 = 39, retrapped 11, saw 26 species.

Sept. 16:  No banding.  Rained from 8 and the rest of the morning.

Sept. 15: Jim, Roswitha, Kim, Sarah, Cornelia, Alan, Lucy, Orla.  Temperature was 7 degrees with a NW wind changing to SE through the morning.  Sunny day.  Banded:  GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, Gray Catbird 2, Nashville Warbler, Magnolia Warble, American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat, Rose-breasted Grosbeak 2, White-throated Sparrow 2, American Goldfinch = 12, retrapped 7, saw 22 species.
 
Sept. 14: Jim, Rick, Dora, Cornelia, Alan, Lucy, Orla.  Temperature 10 degrees on opening with a W. wind and mainly sunny day.  Banded:  House Wren, Swainson's Thrush 3, Gray Catbird 4, Red-eyed Vireo 2, Mrytle Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler 3, Common Yellowthroat 4, Wilson's Warbler, White-throated Sparrow, American Goldfinch = 22, retrapped 5, saw 25 species.  Myrtle (Yellow-rumped) is usually one of the last warblers to come down. 

Sept. 13: Jim, Roswitha, Cornelia, Alan, Lucy and we welcome Orla from New York state.
  Temperatue 21 with N winds changing to SE.  Cloudy to start and sunny by closing.  Banded: Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Black-capped Chickadee 4, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Gray Catbird 8, Philadelphia Vireo 2, Red-eyed Vireo 12, Nashville Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler 2, Magnolia Warbler 7, Cape-May Warbler 3, Black-throated Blue Warbler 2, Black-throated Green Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler 5, Black-and-White Warbler 2, American Redstart 7, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat 2, Wilson's Warbler, Northern Cardinal = 63, recaptured 13, saw 39 species.

Sept. 11: Jim, Roswitha, Jason, Alan.  Winds from N changing to SW.  Temperature 8, ground fog.  Mainly sunny day.  Banded:  Black-capped Chickadee 2, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Veery 2, Gray-cheek Thrush, Swainson's Thrush 10, Gray Catbird 14, Cedar Waxwing, Warbling Vireo 3, Philadelphia Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo 7, Magnolia Warbler 3, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler, Ovenbird 2, Common Yellowthroat 5, Wilson's Warbler, Northern Cardinal 2, Indigo Bunting, Song Sparrow, Lincoln's Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow 6, American Goldfinch = 69, retrapped 5, saw 39 species.  Interesting that we are already getting White-throats and yesterday a Kinglet.  Migration is moving along.

Sept. 10: Jim, Roswitha, Cornelia, Alan, Lucy.  Winds continued from NW and then to W. Temperature was 11 degrees and mainly sunny.  Banded:  American Woodcock, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher,Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Veery, Swainson's Thrush, Gray Catbird, Red-eyed Vireo 5, Tennessee Warbler 4, Nashville Warbler, Magnolia Warbler 2, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler 2, American Redstart 4, Northern Waterthrush 2, Common Yellowthroat 2, Wilson's Warbler, Rose-breasted Grosbeak 4, Song Sparrow, American Goldfinch 3 = 39, retrapped 6, saw 36 species.

Sept. 9: Jim, Roswitha, Cornelia, Alan, Lucy.  We had a nw wind of only 5 rising to 15. .  Partly cloudy and starting temperature of 11 going to 15.  Banded:  Downy Woodpecker, Traill's Flycatcher, Eastern Phoebe, Great Creasted Flycatcher, Black-capped Chickadee, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 2, American Robin, Gray Catbird 4, Cedar Waxwing 35 (mostly Hatch Year), Warbling Vireo 4, Red-eyed Vireo 2, Nashville Warbler 6, Magnolia Warbler 5, Cape-May Warbler 2, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Western Palm Warbler 3, Blackpoll Warbler 5, Black-and-White Warbler 2, American Redstart 2, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat 7, Wilson's Warbler 3, Northern Cardinal 2, Baltimore Oriole, American Goldfinch 19 = 112, retraped 16, saw 41 species.  (Banded 25 species)

Sept 8: Jim, Cornelia, Alan, Lucy.  Windy with gust up to 20 from W.  Cloud moved in looking like showers.  Banded:  Traill's Flycatcher, American Redstart 2, Nashville Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler 2, Blackpoll Warbler 7, Bay-breasted Warbler, American Goldfinch 3, Common Yellowthroat, Red-eyed Vireo, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Swainson's Thrush, American Robin = 24, retrapped 5, saw 22 species.  It was really too windy.


Sept. 7: Jim, Rick, Dora, Cornelia, Alan, Lucy, Sarah.  Warm morning with opening teperatures of 21 and nw winds changing to sw. Sunny.  Banded:  Least Flycatcher 3, Veery, Gray Catbird 2, Cedar Waxwing 2, Warbling Vireo 2, Nashville Warbler 2, Yellow Warbler, (these Yellows are not our Yellows but come from nw of us.) Magnolia Warbler 5, Cape May Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler 2, Blackpoll Warbler 2, American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat, Wilson's Warbler, Song Sparrow 5, American Goldfinch 6, = 37, retrapped 8, saw 25 species.

Sept. 6: Roswitha, Cornelia, Alan, Jason, Lucy, Jim for an hour. Temperature 15 with 10/10 cloud and wind from W 5 changing to SW 10-15.  Rain shower around 6:30.  Banded: Yellow-shafted Flicker, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Traill's Flycatcher 2, Great Creasted Flycatcher, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Veery 3, Swainson's Thrush 4, American Robin 2, Gray Catbird 4, Cedar Waxwing 4, Warbling Vireo, Philadelphia Vireo 2, Red-eyed Vireo 5, Yellow Warbler 3, Northern Parula, Magnolia Warbler 3, Cape May Warbler 3, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler 5, American Redstart 2, Common Yellowthroat 2, Wilson's Warbler 2, Indigo Bunting, Song Sparrow, American Goldfinch 5 = 61, retrapped 12, saw 38 species.  This is, so far, the high species count with 26 species banded.

Sept. 4: Jim, Roswitha, Cornelia, Alan, Jason, Lucy: Ian, Fraser, Owen Darling.  A real weather change with temperatures only 10 this morning.  Gusting winds (10 to 25) from the W had nets billowed out. Cloudy and sunny periods.  Banded: Traill's Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher 3, Gray Catbird, Cedar Waxwing, Warbling Vireo, Magnolia Warbler 3, Blackpoll Warbler 4, Black-and-White Warbler, American Redstart 6, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat, Song Sparrow 2, = 25, retrapped 6, saw 26 species. 

Sept. 3: Continues hot and humid. Jim, Roswitha, Cornelia, Alan, Jason, Lucy. Banded: Traill's Flycatcher, Veery, Swainson's Thrush, Gray Catbird, Philadelphia Vireo, Magnolia Warbler 2, Cape-May Warbler, Hooded Warbler, American Goldfinch 2  = 11, recatured 4, saw 21 species.

Sept. 2: Very humid.  Jim, Roswitha, Cornelia, Alan and we welcome Lucy from England. Temperature 21 and wind from S.W. we got rained out at 10.  Banded:  Downey Woodpecker, Swainson's Thrush 2, Gray Catbird 3, Cedar Waxwing, Warbling Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo 3, Nashville Warbler, Magnolia Warbler 3, American Redstart, Wilson's Warbler, Northern Cardinal, Song Sparrow 3, American Goldfinch 3, = 24, recaptured 2, saw 26

September 1: Roswitha, Cornelia, Bev, Jason, Alan.  Temperature 20 degrees wind from Sw at 7 and 2/10 cloud.  Very humid.
